Product Review: Noble Bean Original Tempeh

noble bean tempeh

What is it? Tempeh is the combination of organic soybeans and active cultures that live and ferment the soybean. The “original” flavor of this Noble Bean’s tempeh literally has 2 ingredients, soybeans and rhizopus culture. If you know your sports nutrition you will recall that beans of all types are sources of energy and muscle building material (protein). Additionally soybeans are a great source of iron, zinc and calcium.

What I like about Noble Bean Tempeh:

  • It is sold frozen so it will not spoil and you can have a ready to eat protein you can defrost at any time (per ½ package you will get 25g protein).
  • It does not contain additives and preservatives so you are getting mostly the nutrients from the beans.

What can you do with Tempeh?

  • Cube tempeh like you would beef cubes or tofu cubes and prepare it with spices and oils in the same way.
  • Eat it unprepared mixed into salads, soups, or other savoury dishes.

Tip!

Tempeh is higher in fat and fibre than other lean meat proteins which means it may digest slower. Be aware of the different timing of digestion you might need for tempeh if you are eating this food pre-hockey.
